Christmas Donation for the coolMINT.forscht Research Project

On the occasion of last Christmas, FASTEC GmbH also supported young researchers for the first time with its Christmas donation. The student research center coolMINT.forscht (SFZ for short), which meets every Friday and Saturday at the Heinz Nixdorf MuseumsForum in Paderborn, was delighted to receive a donation of €500.

The SFZ started in January 2014 on the premises of the coolMINT.paderborn school lab. While entire school classes fill the room from Monday morning to Friday lunchtime and use the regular services of the school lab, children come with their own individual ideas from Friday lunchtime to Saturday afternoon. The children receive individual support with their own project ideas, they can decide for themselves what they want to do and there is no predetermined way to achieve the project goal. Most of the children’s and young people’s project ideas come from the fields of technology, computer science and physics. Working at the school research center is free of charge for the children. The children and young people are supervised by two student assistants and volunteer supervisors.

Since 2014, 69 children aged between six and 19 have conducted research at the SFZ. They take part in many competitions, such as Jugend forscht, the First Lego League and the World Robot Olympics.

“As a company in the IT sector, the shortage of skilled workers is a very topical issue for us. Supporting children and young people at an early age to be curious about new and complex topics and to explore them, as well as learning to work together as a team towards a common goal, are properties that pay off for every child in education, the world of work and, of course, for companies. The concept of coolMINT.forscht can therefore only be supported,” explains Stefan Rupprecht, Managing Director of FASTEC GmbH.

This time, FASTEC is supporting the RoboPower team with its donation. The team consists of eight children between the ages of 10 and 13 who attend different schools in Paderborn and this is the third time the team has taken on the challenges of the First Lego League. “With the donation, we can now cover the entire participation fee for Team RoboPower in the First Lego League. Now, of course, we all want to keep our fingers crossed that the team does well!” says Ingrid Löcke, organizer of the entire student research project.

In addition to the donation for the student research project coolMINT.forscht, FASTEC GmbH also supported the German Children’s Hospice Association and Friedensdorf International with its Christmas donation.
