The FASTEC 4 PRO Software Solution at Zum Dorfkrug

The Zum Dorfkrug range includes a large selection of salad dressings and classic desserts. The Sylter Salatfrische was created in the restaurant Zum Dorfkrug and was then sold in supermarkets for the first time in 2004. Today, the company has a production site in Neu Wulmstorf and a farm with its own cows, thus ensuring short production distances. Its customers include food retailers in Germany and Austria.
Thanks to the implementation of the Manufacturing Execution System (MES) FASTEC 4 PRO in the production at Zum Dorfkrug, machine and production data acquisition (MDA/PDA) is now fully digital. This results in time savings and a significant increase in efficiency for employees at all levels.

            • Industry: Food industry
            • In Use: FASTEC 4 PRO software solution with the Machine Data Acquisition (MDA) and Production data acquisition (PDA) modules
            • Special Feature: Downtime recording & performance overview.

Short and Precise

Goal: Simplify Processes, Reduce Effort

Before implementing FASTEC 4 PRO at Zum Dorfkrug, employees recorded production data manually in Excel and then evaluated it. This was very time-consuming and led to errors, which caused costs and made the process inefficient. Even if it makes no visible difference to consumers, digital data acquisition has many advantages for production employees. One goal of the project with FASTEC was to simplify the processes and reduce the workload for individual employees. In addition, the collected data should be presented in a coherent and clear manner. Due to a lack of routine, there were repeated disruptions in the production of products that were produced less frequently. Zum Dorfkrug wanted to see an improvement here, so that measures should be derived from the data to optimize future production processes.

Downtimes and Performance Overview for Individual Products

Today, machine data and production data are digitally recorded and evaluated in production at Zum Dorfkrug using FASTEC 4 PRO. With the help of the MES, the company determines the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), i.e. the key figure for recording production productivity. This is collected weekly. In addition, Zum Dorfkrug evaluates the Net Equipment Effectiveness (NEE) and the Total Effective Equipment Performance (TEEP). All values are finally compared. The manufacturing company also uses FASTEC 4 PRO to record downtime and to provide an overview of performance. The latter shows how quickly a product is manufactured. This enables Zum Dorfkrug to determine whether an item can be bottled even faster, what measures are needed to achieve this and what challenges may arise.

Derive Measures and Implement Them in a Targeted Way

Using FASTEC 4 PRO has simplified many processes and ensured a uniform database. All employees, whether in the office or directly in production on large screens, can now view the status and report data in real time. This means an enormous time saving and reduced effort. There have also been improvements in the recording of short shutdowns. While these were previously recorded manually in Excel, they have now become accurate and measurable digital data. Zum Dorfkrug is able to detect approx. 70 to 75 percent more malfunctions than before. The reduced effort for data acquisition can also be expressed in figures: While before using FASTEC 4 PRO, employees spent approx. 0.5 hours per day in a week on reports, this now takes only about one hour per week in total.
