Vion Convenience GmbH, based in Großostheim-Rinheim, is one of the leading manufacturers of self-service fresh meat products for the food retail industry. The company, founded in 1980, produces over 100 different products with 240 employees. As part of Operational Excellence (OpEx), VION Convenience GmbH is tackling the challenge of making its production processes completely transparent. The MES FASTEC 4 PRO was brought in to help.

As part of OpEx, Vion wants to make its production processes transparent in order to uncover hidden production reserves on the one hand and weak points in production on the other.
More Efficient Planning with MES
As early as 2010, the OpEx concept was declared a key topic within the Vion Food Group. The Bavarian company Vion Convenience GmbH in Großostheim-Ringheim, with Dirk Kirchner as production manager, started as an OpEx pilot user a short time later.
Three production lines were to be monitored and analyzed. In total, the machinery for this area includes 36 machines. Previously, the recording of production, setup and downtime was initially done manually and only in a random sampling fashion, and therefore proved to be very time-consuming. In order to uncover possible optimization potentials, an exact database was to be automatically recorded with IT support. The IT company FASTEC GmbH from Paderborn was chosen to implement this task.
Production Key Figures Fully Automatically and in Real Time
To determine the OEE value, all machine states and their durations had to be clearly recorded in order to optimize the production processes with the help of subsequent evaluations.
Vion gained initial experience in automatic data acquisition from October 2010 with the ready-to-use productivity measurement device easyOEE for optimizing individual machines or lines.
